Will the YMCA keep the current Northeast Branch open?
The Northeast Family Branch will remain open until such time as the replacement facility is constructed and operational. The YMCA will continue to maintain the Northeast facility to high standards.
When will the current Northeast Branch facility close?
The Northeast Family Branch will remain open until such time as the replacement facility is constructed and operational. The YMCA will announce a closing date of Northeast approximately six months prior to the opening of the new facility.
What will happen to the Northeast Branch Staff?
The Northeast Branch staff will remain employed by YMCA Buffalo Niagara, but not necessarily in the same position they currently hold or at the same location.
What will happen to the Northeast Branch building?
Daemen College has purchased the Northeast Branch facility. They will take possession soon after the closing of the Northeast branch.
New Facility
Where exactly is the proposed facility located?
The YMCA has purchased a 13 acre parcel along Tech Drive adjacent to the north campus of Erie Community College. The site is on Tech Drive, accessible from Main Street and Wehrle Drive.
When will the new Independent Health Family Branch YMCA open?
It is anticipated that construction of the new facility will be completed in early January 2013. To follow the progress of the new Independent Health Family Branch YMCA, visit www.IndependentHealthFamilyYMCA.org.
What features will the proposed new facility have?
The new facility will have features similar to the Southtowns Family Branch including gymnasiums, a running track, fitness center, zero entry pool, lap swim pool, aerobic studios, adventure room, child watch, multi-purpose rooms, locker rooms, and ample parking. The facility will utilize energy efficient / green technology. (See Facility Profile)
Will the proposed new facility have racquetball courts?
There will not be racquetball courts in the new facility.
Membership
When will I/my family be able to sign up for membership at the new YMCA facility?
Approximately nine months prior to the opening of the new facility, current Northeast Family Branch members will be able to enroll for membership at the new facility. Enrollment for the general public will begin about six months prior to the facility’s opening.
Will the membership rate for the new facility be the same as the current Northeast Branch rates?
The membership rates will be based on the operating and financing costs for the new facility. Financial assistance will be available.
I just purchased a membership at Northeast, will it transfer to the new branch?
Beginning one year prior to the opening of the new facility, Northeast Branch members will have the opportunity to upgrade their membership to the new facility.
What will be the hours of operation?
It is expected that the hours of operation will be similar to those currently in place at the Northeast Branch.
If I join the new YMCA will I be able to use the other YMCA branch facilities?
The YMCA offers three types of Masterkey memberships (Adult, Family, and Senior) which permits individuals and families to utilize all the full facilities of YMCA Buffalo Niagara.
Employment
When will you be hiring staff for the new YMCA facility?
We will be beginning the recruitment process in the first quarter of 2012. The full-time staffing plan has been announced. Part-time positions will be announced later this year.
How many jobs will be created by replacing the current Northeast Branch with the new Independent Health Family Branch YMCA?
Currently the Northeast Family YMCA has seven full time and 93 part-time staff. The new facility will have 20 full-time staff and 225+ part-time staff. There will also be additional 250+ jobs in construction during the construction period.
Project Funding
What is the cost of building and equipping the new YMCA facility?
The estimate for construction and equipping the new YMCA facility is in excess of $23 million.
How will the YMCA pay for the construction and equipping of the new facility?
The YMCA will utilize fund raised through a capital fundraising effort and debt financing.
When will the YMCA conduct its capital campaign and how much does it expect to raise?
