Active Older Adult Fitness

Just because we get older doesn’t mean we have to stop exercising…and it’s never too late to get moving. Exercise has been proven to promote mental agility in addition to longevity and good health. YMCA Buffalo Niagara offers a number of fitness and aquatic programs, field trips, and special events designed for the older adult. Below is a sample of our programming for active older adult members.

A Bollywood-inspired dance-fitness program that combines dynamic choreography with the hottest music. Workout cycles between higher and lower-intensity dance sequences to get you moving, sweating, and motivated. At the very core of BollyX workout is the inspirations it draws from the music and dance of Bollywood, the film industry of India. We embody the infectious energy, expression and movement of Bollywood. Our fitness curriculum has been created by world-class choreographers and certified fitness professionals to ensure a safe and powerful total body dance workout for all.

Fusing elements of ballet, pilates and yoga. Freestyle barre is guaranteed to tone you in a low impact, high intensity setting. Focus is on postural strength and alignment, balance, upper body strength using light weights and lower body toning using a barre or chair. Mat workout completes the workout with an invigorating final stretch.

Pilates is a renowned method of body conditioning named after Joseph Pilates. This class will strengthen the body?s core muscles including the abdominals and the lower back. It will tone the body and increase flexibility. All exercises are done on a mat (no special equipment needed). All YMCA Pilates instructors have completed specialized training to teach the Pilates method.
