COMMUNITY CPR
This American Red Cross course teaches participants:
ADULT CPR
- Call and work with EMS
- Care for conscious and unconscious choking victims
- Perform CPR, recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies
- Avoid bloodborne pathogen exposure
- Know the role of AED in the Cardiac Chain of Survival, Infant and Child CPR
INFANT AND CHILD CPR
- Call and work with EMS
- Recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in infants and children under age eight
- Develop an emergency plan
- Prevent and reduce hazards in the home and play area
FIRST AID
- This American Red Cross course teaches particpants to:
- Recognize emergency situations
- Check the scene and call for help
- Avoid bloodborne pathogen exposure
- Care for wounds, cone and soft-tissue injuries, head and spinal injuries, burns, heat and cold emergencies
- Manage sudden illness, stroke, seizure and poisoning
- Minimize shock

YMCA LIFEGUARD TRAINING
This 35-hour course is designed to give participants the basic skills and knowledge needed to be lifeguards in the pool, lakes, rivers, surf, and water parks.
This comprehensive course offers up to date information on how to guard, anticipate and prevent problems and take action to help those in danger. It also covers safety and survival skills every swimmer needs to know - accident prevention, guarding techniques, emergency system rescue skills, first-aid in aquatic environments, spinal injury management, weather and open water dangers, legal responsibilities and pool management. First Aid, CPR for Professional Rescuer, AED and Oxygen Administration are Included in course.
Course Prerequisities:
Must be at least 16 years old to register. Participants under 18 must have parental consent. [Those who successfully work for the YMCA for at least six months will be reimbursed for 50 percent of the course fee. Note: Lifeguards employed by the YMCA must be 18 years old.]
Must pass the following swim test: Perform a long, shallow front dive, then swim 500 yards, including 100 yards each of sidestroke, front crawl, breaststroke, sidestroke kick with one arm on stomach.
Must be able to tread water for at least 2 minutes with legs only.
Must be able to surface-dive head first and feet first in 8 - 10 feet of water and swim under water for 15 feet.

Please bring bathing suit, towel, goggles, notebook and pen to all classes. Particpants are required to attend all classes in order to receive certification.
