Youth Sports Programs

Youth sports programs help children develop fundamental skills and incorporate teamwork through instructional play. Whether it’s gaining the confidence that comes from learning to play or building positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork, participation in any sports program at the Y is focused on developing youth while promoting healthy living. Participants not only learn the rules of the game but also have fun!

The Y offers a variety of youth sports programs, which vary by season and branch location, including:

Join in the sport that was invented at the YMCA! Learn and practice basketball techniques, conditioning skills, and strategies to play competitive games against other YMCA teams. The goal of this league is to have fun, promote teamwork, develop basketball skills, and improve individual physical fitness.

This program teaches children the fundamentals of soccer, basketball, T-Ball, and hockey. Children learn the importance of physical activity and each class includes a segment on character development, which focuses on honesty, caring, respect, and responsibility.

The Y has a long history of providing quality sports programs to area youth. Children, regardless of ability, learn the fundamental rules and skills needed to succeed in their sport of choice. Good sportsmanship is practiced and participants have fun while learning new skills and making new friends. The early weeks of the program are spent teaching drills and sharpening skills, while scrimmaging takes place in later weeks.

What is pickle-ball? It?s the fastest growing sport in North America! Pickle-ball is a combination of tennis and badminton that is played by hitting whiffle balls with lightweight wooden or composite paddles. Played on a badminton court with a three foot high net, Pickle -ball can be played in singles and doubles. It does not require a lot of racket skills so it is a great lead-up game to tennis.

Youth are lead through drills intended to introduce the various skill sets necessary to play soccer, volleyball, and basketball. Non-traditional sports will also be a part of the session such as kickball, Ultimate Frisbee, dodgeball, and more.takes place in later weeks.
