Competitive swimming skills are taught and developed in a fun environment that also emphasizes teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship, and accomplishing goals. Competitive swim meets are held throughout the season. Participants must be able to swim two lengths of the pool using the freestyle and backstroke techniques. In addition, participants must be able to demonstrate components of breaststroke and butterfly. Contact the aquatics director for details. Must be a YMCA member to join.
This program is structured like a swim team practice that will focus on improving swimmers’ techniques and fitness in the water without the competitive pressure. It is great for children who want to participate in a team setting, work hard, make friends, but don’t have the desire to be in a competitive environment. Like all our programs focus will be on collaboration and hard work. *Must be able to jump off starting block, tread water for 30 seconds and swim 25 yards nonstop. Completion of Stage 5 recommended.
