Youth Sports Programs
Youth sports programs help children develop fundamental skills and incorporate teamwork through instructional play. Whether it’s gaining the confidence that comes from learning to play or building positive relationships that lead to good sportsmanship and teamwork, participation in any sports program at the Y is focused on developing youth while promoting healthy living. Participants not only learn the rules of the game but also have fun!

Youth Sports Programs Offered at the YMCA
The Y has a long history of providing quality sports programs to area youth. Children, regardless of ability, learn the fundamental rules and skills needed to succeed in their sport of choice. Good sportsmanship is practiced and participants have fun while learning new skills and making new friends. The early weeks of the program are spent teaching drills and sharpening skills, while scrimmaging takes place in later weeks.
Boys and girls learn basic basketball skills: dribbling, shooting, passing, and positioning. Game-like situations are focused on. The early weeks of the program are spent teaching drills and sharpening skills. Scrimmaging will take place in later weeks as an addition to skill development.

This class incorporates basic skills such as passing, stick handling, shooting, scrimmages and games that develop teamwork and sportsmanship in a fun, non-competitive environment.
Children will learn a variety of styles including Kung Fu, Tae Kwon Do, and Brazillian Jiu Jitsu from a certified blackbelt instructor. Your child will enhance their hand/eye coordination, balance, and overall conditioning. All students begin with no belt and progress through a test once they are ready.
The focus on this class is on personal development, self-confidence, self-discipline, respect for self and others, improved physical and mental conditioning, and safety. Classes are taught in a safe, fun and interactive environment. At the end of the session your child will present their skills during a presentation.
Your child will begin to learn basic gymnastics skills as well as terminology. An emphasis is placed on strength, flexibility, endurance, and balance all in a fun and safe atmosphere.
