Virtual Turkey Trot Frequently Asked Questions
125th YMCA Turkey Trot
What is the YMCA Turkey Trot?
Known to be the oldest consecutively run footrace in North America, the YMCA Turkey Trot is an 8K (4.97 mile) Thanksgiving Day tradition that attracts over 14,000 runners of all ages and abilities to the City of Buffalo each year. To add to the excitement, many participants also choose to run in costumes.
What does the YMCA Turkey Trot benefit?
Proceeds from the event help fund YMCA programs that empower youth, improve community health, and ensure access to all. Your participation makes it possible for more kids to have safe places after school, learn them to swim, and expand their learning; for more teens, adults, and seniors to achieve their wellness goals, find a sense of belonging, and connect with their community; and for more families to connect and grow within the healthy and supportive environment of their local YMCA.
Why is there a virtual option in 2020?
Due to the current NYS and Erie County restrictions on mass gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to host a virtual event this year. Our goal is to give all loyal past participants and friends the opportunity to still run the Turkey Trot together, but safely apart.
